Meeting of the three presidencies on demonstrations in Iraq

The three presidencies, leaders of blocs and political parties in the House of Representatives held an urgent meeting at the Peace Palace in Baghdad following the impact of protests in the country, has resulted in a number of points to contain the crisis.

The meeting was held at the invitation of the President of the Republic Barham Saleh on Wednesday evening in the presence of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohammed Halbousi and leaders and heads of blocs.

A statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic said on Thursday that the meeting stressed the need to respect democratic principles that guarantee the right of citizens to demonstrate and express their protest by various peaceful means.

The statement added that the meeting stressed the need to accelerate the taking of accurate and honest investigative measures on what happened in the demonstrations of the past two days, and to emphasize restraint and respect for the law and prevent the use of excessive force in dealing with events, and to emphasize the legal and societal responsibility in facing who want to target public security.
