Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Monday that the first thing his government is doing after liberating the cities from the grip of the ISIS organization is to open schools, stressing the need to confront and eradicate extremist ideology and terrorism.

"The role of the teacher in society is an example for others to chart a better future for our peoples," Abadi said in a speech at the opening of the Central Council of the Arab Teachers 'Union held by the Iraqi Teachers' Union in Baghdad.

"We face a number of challenges, including eliminating the other through extremist and terrorist ideology," he said, adding that "it is very important to eliminate this thought."

"The first thing we do after the liberation of cities is to open schools to their utmost importance and the importance of education," he said, stressing "the importance of the role of the teacher in society and the government's plan to take care of this important group."
