Asayish forces in Sulaymaniyah on Sunday arrested dozens of members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) opposed to Turkey, following their special activity inside a park in the center of Sulaymaniyah that included a film about a party activist killed two years ago.

In late November, the Asayish forces in Sulaymaniyah closed several offices of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, close to the PKK, prompting the movement to accuse the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) of "Satisfacing Ankara and forcing it to resume flights and business dealings with Sulaymaniyah " .

On the other hand, security sources in Sulaymaniyah confirmed that the arrests were because the detainees "carried out an illegal activity and challenged the authority in the city." confirmed the release of the few women who were arrested on bail while the men are still under investigation.

The sources stressed that the security instructions issued by the highest levels in the region and "stresses the cessation of any practices hostile to Ankara, or the threat to its security, and here any person who wants to organize an activity or demonstration in the region should get approvals of the relevant bodies, , noted that "the region applies the decision to close all the headquarters of the PKK in all cities, including Sulaymaniyah, has been closed 15 headquarters in Sulaymaniyah and Garamian during the last period, any activity by party elements will be subject to arrest."

"They tried to show the same film in a cinema, and the cinema was closed for violating the orders, so they used a public park to introduce it and invite people to watch it," it said.

On the other hand, Kurdish activists stressed that the authorities in Sulaymaniyah "are tightening on the elements of the PKK , pointing out that this measure is new to the political atmosphere of the city, but citizens here welcome anything that would remove tension with Turkey because of unilateral sanctions imposed by Ankara on trade with Sulaymaniyah without the rest of the provinces of the region. "

They added that "Sulaymaniyah in general does not want to be a battlefield for anyone, and this message arrived during the past two days to the elements and leaders of the PKK."
