NASA launches the world's largest telescope

On Saturday, the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched the James Webb Space Telescope from the northeastern coast of South America.

The Associated Press reported that NASA launched the largest and most powerful telescope in the world, from the French Guiana region, located on the northeastern coast of South America, onboard the European “Aryan” rocket, on a high-risk mission to monitor the light from the first stars and galaxies in the universe.

Explained that the astronomical observatory set out towards its destination, which is 1.6 million km away, or four times farther from the moon.

"It (the telescope) will give us a better understanding of our universe and our place in it: who we are, what we are, and the eternal search," NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said earlier this week.

It is scheduled that the telescope's journey to reach its destination will take one month and an additional 5 months to be ready to start scanning the universe.

The telescope works in infrared, costing 10 billion dollars and weighing 7 tons, as thousands of people from 29 countries have been working on it since the 1990s.
