A camp for the displaced in Shingal issues an urgent call due to the snow

A camp for the displaced in Shingal district launched on Wednesdayan urgent appeal to the United Nations to help families affected by the snow.

The director of Mount Shingal camp, Ali Shaabo, said in a statement: "We make an urgent appeal to the United Nations and the Iraqi Human Rights Commission to help hundreds of families trapped as a result of the strong snow wave that swept the region."

Shaabo added that "the immediate weather conditions, if they continue, will lead to a humanitarian disaster for the citizens residing in Mount Shingal camp in the Sardashti region."

Two days ago, areas in the Kurdistan region and Iraq were exposed to a wave of snow that cut roads and impeded traffic, as temperatures recorded 17 degrees below zero.

The Mount Shingal camp houses about 2,300 displaced people, the majority of whom are Yazidis, whose homes were completely destroyed by ISIS in 2014, which hindered their return to their areas of origin.
