Violent clashes continue to erupt in the city of Hasaka (western Kurdistan) in northeastern Syria between Kurdish forces and ISIS, for the fourth day, while US forces sent military reinforcements to support the Kurdish forces.
Local sources reported that clashes renewed, today, Sunday, between the two sides, in the Ghweran neighborhood of Hasaka, for the third day, following an attack carried out by ISIS, on Thursday, on the industrial prison, where members of the organization, previously captured by the "PYD".
On Thursday, ISIS elements launched an attack on the prison, during which they detonated a car bomb and were able to enter it, which led to the escape of dozens of ISIS elements detained there.
The sources indicated that the intensification of the clashes prompted ISIS members to return to the prison to be fortified there, in addition to their concentration in the buildings of the Faculty of Economics and the Institute of Technical Observers adjacent to the prison.
According to the sources, the clashes in Ghweran neighborhood during the past two days claimed the lives of 100 people from both sides, while US helicopters bombed Ghweran neighborhood with heavy machine guns, while Kurdish forces targeted it with artillery.
Yesterday, Saturday evening, US forces sent 7 tanks and dozens of soldiers from their base in the town of Al-Shaddadi, south of Hasaka, to the vicinity of Ghweran neighborhood, in preparation for storming it in the coming hours, while the clashes pushed hundreds of neighborhood residents to flee to neighboring neighborhoods during the past two days.
