The Iraqi Federal Supreme Court decides to legalize the election of the Speaker and his two deputies

On Tuesday, the Federal Supreme Court of Iraq ruled the legality of the first session of Parliament, which witnessed the election of its speaker and two deputies.

The Iraqi News Agency said, "The Federal Court decided to reject the challenge to the constitutionality of the first session of Parliament," noting that "MP Khaled Al-Daraji's presidency of the first parliament session does not contradict the provisions of the constitution."

Added, "The court also decided to cancel the order regarding the temporary suspension of the Presidency of the Parliament," stressing that "the oldest interim Speaker of Parliament, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, cannot continue to run the parliament session after announcing his candidacy for the presidency."

Parliament elected Muhammad al-Halbousi as speaker of the Parliament after he won the votes of 200 deputies, compared to 14 votes for his rival, al-Mashhadani.
