WHO warns of monkeypox outbreak

The World Health Organization confirmed, on Saturday, that there are 80 human cases of the rare monkeypox virus in 11 countries, and 50 other cases are being verified.

The organization issued an official statement saying: "At the moment, about 80 cases have been confirmed, and another 50 cases are under verification, and with the expansion of surveillance, it is likely that more cases will be reported."

The organization indicated that monkeypox is present in some animals in a number of countries, which leads to periodic outbreaks of the disease among local residents and travelers.

A senior European health official has warned that cases of the rare monkeypox virus may accelerate in the coming months, as the virus spreads across Europe.
