A source familiar with the Iraqi prime minister's office said: that Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani is scheduled to visit Baghdad today to meet with senior Iraqi officials.

The source told Jibal that the Syrian Foreign Minister is scheduled to visit Iraq today and meet with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani in Baghdad.

According to the source, Shaibani's visit will be aimed at continuing relations between Damascus and Baghdad at different levels, especially the issue of borders, opening border crossing, and resumption of flights, the return of economic and trade activities between Iraq and Syria.

Shaibani and the Iraqi government will also discuss the presence of ISIS fighters which are being held in several prisons in Syria, which is one of the priorities of the Iraqi government.

Baghdad and Damascus have become closer after Iraqi intelligence chief Hamid Shatri visited the Syrian capital and met with Syrian Administration Commander-in-Chief Ahmed Sharaa.
