Iraq imports twice as much electricity from Turkey

Iraq will import electricity from Kuwait to Basra and is expected to import 600 megawatts from Turkey by June.

Ahmad Musa, spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, said: Iraq currently imports 54 MW of electricity from Jordan to supply Rutba district, and we are working to increase that amount to 150 MW to supply Ana, Hait, Rutba, Hasiba, and Qaim areas.

He added that the ministry is trying to restart the transfer of 500 megawatts of electricity from Kuwait to Basra before the summer.

He also added that we are working to increase electricity imports from Turkey to about 600 MW by June, instead of the 300 MW currently supplied through the electricity connection between the two countries.
