On Sunday, the Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Union, Salahaddin Muhammad Bahaaddin, issued a message commemorating the anniversary of the chemical attack on Halabja.
In his eulogy for the city, the Secretary-General said, "Halabja, dear to the hearts of the Kurds, is the city of literature, knowledge, and gratitude, the capital of peace and coexistence among all communities, the city of martyrs, and a symbol of the oppression of the enemy."
He added, "It is the cradle of the Islamic awakening and the lions' den. Although no one cares about your suffering, does not grant you your rights, and is exploiting your case, rest assured that you will remain proud. Your history is rich, and your citizens are at the forefront of the caravan."
