US Consulate General in Erbil said, “We demand that the Kurdistan Region's law on media and the right to access information be fully implemented.”

US Consulate General in Erbil said, "To celebrate Kurdish Journalism Day, US Consulate General Consul General Mark Straw met with a number of media freedom advocacy centers and independent media".

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the situation of media freedom in the Kurdistan Region and the challenges faced by journalists, as well as the continuous support of the US government for journalism training.

Regarding the media working environment in the Kurdistan Region, the US Consulate said the United States is committed to advocating an environment in which the media can work without fear of harassment, intimidation, and discrimination based on political intimacy.

He added that the law on media work and the law on the right to access information in the Kurdistan Region should be fully implemented.
