The Iraqi Ministry of Defense provides weapons to the Peshmerga

The National Security Council approved the National Security Strategy for 2024-2028 and decided to exempt the Peshmerga forces from military purchase customs and provide them with weapons by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

Lieutenant General Yahya Rassoul, spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, said: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani chaired a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the latest developments in the security situation across Iraq.

He added: The meeting approved the National Security Strategy 2024-2028, which was prepared in accordance with the approved standards to be integrated and in line with the government's program recommended to the Council of Ministers for approval.

Yahya Rasul said the Council of Ministers for National Security approved the exemption of the Kurdistan Regional Guard Forces from customs duties related to military purchases, like the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and Counter-Terrorism Agency provided that the arming of these forces is through the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

In another part of the meeting, the council approved the abolition of the Karkh and Rasafa operations command and the reform of the military units The two sectors will be linked to the Baghdad Operations Command, to ensure the performance of command, control and security as necessary.
