Al-Monitor: Security cooperation and transportation corridor are among the priorities of Erdogan's visit to Iraq

A US website reported that Ankara is likely to temporarily open its dams to Iraq "in exchange for a ban on the PKK.

Al-Monitor website published a report entitled "From PKK to Corridor Project: Ambitious agenda awaits Turkey’s Erdogan in Iraq" which pointed out that security cooperation and transportation corridor planning are expected to be at the top of the agenda of the Turkish president's visit to Iraq in next April, it is the first visit to Iraq since 2011.

Said the Turkish president's visit to Iraq is likely to push talks on the transportation corridor project, Ankara is trying to increase cooperation in the fight against PKK fighters.

Pointed out that earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said: Erdogan would visit Baghdad after the end of Ramadan and would discuss security cooperation against the banned PKK, efforts to resume oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline, and the development road project to connect the rich province of Basra with oil from Iraq to Western countries through Turkey.

According to Al-Monitor, the Turkish president's visit comes at a sensitive time immediately after Iraq gave Ankara an important look by banning the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

In return, Turkey is likely to provide temporary assistance to Iraq in the reduction of water and open the doors of dams on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which is still one of the long-standing conflicts between the two countries.
