The import and sale of alcoholic beverages has been banned in an Iraqi province.

Khalid Karbuli, a member of the Anbar provincial council, announced a ban on the import and sale of alcoholic beverages in Anbar province on Thursday.

Anbar provincial council has decided to ban the import and sale of alcoholic beverages in all cities of Anbar as part of the new local government's plan to eliminate and combat the spread of alcoholic beverages, Karbuli said.

He added that the Anbar local government is reviewing the approvals it has given for the import and sale of alcoholic beverages and their sale in some cities of Anbar, among the measures taken by the relevant authorities to investigate and punish those who violate government guidelines.
