Iraqi health: 27,000 cases of measles registered

The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported 27,000 cases of measles, 96 percent of whom have not been vaccinated.

Riaz Abdul Amir, Director General of Health at the Iraqi Ministry of Health, said the ministry registered more than 27,000 cases of measles, 96 percent of which were among the unvaccinated and only 4 percent of the cases were vaccinated.

He also asked parents to help vaccinate their children in schools to avoid the dangers of the disease.

He added that 43 deaths were recorded due to measles, 42 were due to non-vaccination, and the rest were accompanied by chronic illness.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that about 7 million students will be vaccinated against measles in kindergartens and primary schools.
