White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby confirmed Friday that the United States remains opposed to a general ceasefire in Gaza because it believes it would benefit Hamas.
"We support a humanitarian ceasefire, as I said, to try to get the hostages out and provide more assistance, but we do not support a general ceasefire at this time," Kirby said during a White House news conference.
“I think it’s important to remember that the ceasefire had been in effect since October 6,” he continued.
