Iraq wants to take advantage of Kurdistan's gas

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity plans to rely on Kormor gas to meet the needs of power plants.

Ahmad Musa, spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, said: The Iraqi government wants to use gas from the Kormor field to meet the needs of power plants in the north.

He added that Kormor must first provide the needs of the Kurdistan Region and then if there is a surplus, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity wants to use it.

The spokesman said the gas from the Kormor field is of good quality and can meet the needs of the northern power plants.

He said there is not much demand for electricity in the spring, but as the summer season approaches, the issue of buying gas from Kormor will be discussed again.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity yesterday extended the contract to buy gas from Iran's National Gas Company for another five years.
