The United Nations called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and important measures to protect civilian lives.

A number of UN officials issued a statement on Thursday called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and the occupying Israel must take important measures to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians.

"We are concerned about the restrictions on access to medical treatment and essential supplies in hospitals," the statement said.

"According to reports, wounded children are being treated in Gaza hospitals without anesthesia, and surgery is being performed on pregnant women," it said.

Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, 29,410 people have been killed and 69,465 injured.
