The President of the Iraqi Federal Court explains his decisions regarding the Kurdistan region

The President of the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, explained on Thursday his decisions regarding the Kurdistan region, including those regarding the salaries of its employees.

A statement to the court’s media stated that Abboud explained that “the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq of 2005 has established the basic principles of rights and freedoms for the Iraqi people and the foundations that lead to the people exercising those rights and freedoms. The most important of these foundations is equality based on the provisions of Article (14) thereof and the peaceful transfer of power based on Article (6). ) of the Constitution, equal opportunities based on the provisions of Article (16) thereof, and the freedom to establish and join political parties based on the provisions of Article (39) of the Constitution.”

Abboud also stated that “the democratic system in Iraq needs to build constitutional institutions and a correct electoral system, including the presence of a fair electoral law and an independent election commission, while taking into account the provisions of Article (110) of the Constitution regarding the exclusive powers of the federal authorities and Article (117) of the Constitution regarding approving a constitution.” The Republic of Iraq, upon its entry into force, will constitute the Kurdistan Region and its existing authorities as a federal region.”
