The United Nations announced, on Tuesday, that it will provide the largest assistance in the world to Iraq in its early parliamentary elections expected next October.

This came according to the head of the United Nations mission in Iraq, "UNAMI", Jenin Plasschaert, in a press conference held at the headquarters of the International Organization in the capital, Baghdad, about 5 weeks before the date of the elections.

Plasschaert said that the assistance that the United Nations will provide for the Iraqi elections "will be the largest in the world," without specifying it.

She added that "among the staff that will be deployed, more than 130 international experts are for monitoring," noting that the total number "will be 5 times the number in the previous elections in 2018 in Iraq," without specifying it.

Plasschaert said that among the tasks of these employees are "electoral assistance, as well as taking procedural measures to prevent electoral fraud."

She added: "There may be loopholes, but we believe that things are going well, and there are other parties monitoring the elections, not just the United Nations."

She stressed that the United Nations "is making efforts to prevent electoral violations and that the electoral process should be inclusive," and continued: "We will encourage women to vote and participate."
