Iraqi army announced on Thursday, the establishment of a security barrier on the border with Syria, including barbed wire and watchtowers, to "prevent the infiltration of terrorists" into the country.

The Iraqi army spokesman, Major General Yahya Rasoul, told the official news agency, "The security berm that has been completed with the Syrian side is 650 km long, and includes fortifications, including a trench, watchtowers, thermal cameras, and barbed wire."

He added, "The danger is still inside Syrian territory, where terrorist organizations are present."

He added, "The borders with neighboring countries are well secured by border guard forces, but what concerns us is imposing control over the entire Iraqi-Syrian border and preventing the infiltration of terrorists into Iraq."
