The dispute between PUK and the KDP over the position of President of the Republic escalated

The Kurdistan Democratic Party confirmed, on Monday, that there is no consensus with the Patriotic Union on the presidential candidate while noting that the position is not the preserve of anyone.

A KDP spokesman Mahmoud Mohammad said in a statement: "The goal of all KDP meetings with the rest of the Kurdish parties is to prepare a Kurdish program and find a common opinion on the future of Iraq."

He added, "Our goal is to form a joint delegation from all Kurdish parties," noting that "the representatives of the Patriotic Union did not have the powers to take a decision, as they withdrew without our knowledge."

He pointed out that "the position of the President of the Republic is not owned by one party or one person," considering that "the representatives of the Patriotic Union not voting on the Presidency of the Parliament is a breaking of unity."

He stressed "the need for the candidate of the President of the Republic to have the support of the Kurdish parties."

Yesterday, the Patriotic Union announced that Barham Salih is its candidate for the post of President of the Republic.
