Iraqi PM heads to America to discuss several important files

The Iraqi government spokesman announced that the regional file and what is related to the Gaza war and Iraq’s relations with neighboring countries and regional countries will be part of the discussions of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Sudani in Washington.

He stressed that ending the mission of the international coalition would be the first file for the Sudani's visit and then moving to comprehensive relations, and there is a complete legal basis in the agreement, noting that the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Sudani to Washington and his meeting with US President Joe Biden will discuss the prospects for the future relationship after the international coalition, according to what was reported by Cairo News Channel in breaking news.

On the other hand, the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski, said that ISIS still poses a threat in Iraq.

She added in an interview with Reuters that the work of the US-led military coalition with Iraq to completely defeat the organization "is not over yet."

Senior Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Sudani, have repeatedly said that the organization no longer poses a threat in Iraq and there is no longer a need for the coalition, even as members of the organization continue to carry out attacks elsewhere.

“We both believe that ISIS remains a threat here,” Romanowski said from the US Embassy in Baghdad. “Even though it has declined significantly, our work is essentially not done and we want to make sure that Iraqi forces can continue to defeat ISIS.”

She added: "This is why the United States and Iraq share a commitment to ensuring the lasting defeat of ISIS, including by working together to shape the future of a strong bilateral security partnership between the United States and Iraq."
